Flappy Gums

For a pretty normal, boring family I guess we should be flattered to have heard in the last few days that folks find it appropriate, entertaining, their duty, WHATEVER you call it, to STILL be discussing things about my husband among themselves instead of just reaching out and asking him whatever questions they feel is their business to know.

But where's the fun in actually going to the source and learning the facts, right?

It's no fun learning the "juicy dirt" you are spreading around is in fact nothing but false and/or incomplete crap or your own incorrect, baseless speculation.  The wind in your sails stops blowing and your "superior knowledge power" is over.

Perhaps you should stop using gossip and drama to take the focus away from yourself and your own problems.

Perhaps you should focus your attention on your own life - your own issues with loneliness, money problems and poor stewardship, wrecked relationships, losing custody of your kids, the booze you drink each day, parenting woes, low self esteem; career difficulty - whatever is making you feel so bad about yourself that you find relief in talking about someone else's life to forget your own.

The folks who make the choice to sit and listen rather than put a stop to and rebuke the behavior are just as bad.  Remember this - the person who is sitting there talking a mile a minute to you about someone else will turn around and do the exact same thing to and about YOU one day.

I have to wonder how many more relationships with Jesus would grow stronger if those who profess to be followers of Christ took to their knees in prayer EVERY TIME they were going to gossip about someone else; EVERY TIME they stopped someone else from speaking ill about another and BOTH humbled themselves in prayer.

I wonder how much better our days would be if we removed the people from our lives who cannot or will not stop the gossip and ugliness that is hidden behind their fake smiles.

What a wonderful world that could help cultivate.
